đź’ˇ Did You Know?

While many organizations begin a new year in January, July 1 marks the start of InCommunity's new fiscal year!

Because we operate on a fiscal year calendar, this time of year represents much more than a new budget—it marks new beginnings for the individuals and families we serve.

For some families, July brings access to new services and supports that create opportunities for greater independence, community involvement, and personal growth.

As we enter this new fiscal year, we remain committed to our mission of providing meaningful, person-centered support while building stronger, more inclusive communities throughout metro Atlanta.

Thank you to our staff, families, donors, and community partners for helping make this work possible. Together, we're creating a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

đź’™ Here's to another year of embracing the abilities in all of us.

Transition Tip #3: Encourage Real-World Experiences

One of the best ways to prepare for adulthood is through hands-on experience. Opportunities such as volunteering, job shadowing, participating in community activities, or taking on responsibilities at home can help individuals with I/DD build confidence, explore interests, and develop important life skills.

Real-world experiences provide valuable opportunities to practice communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and self-advocacy in everyday settings.
The earlier these experiences begin, the more prepared individuals may feel as they transition into adulthood.

💡 Start small. Meaningful experiences don't have to be formal programs—they can begin in your home, neighborhood, or community.

Transition Tip #2: Practice Life Skills Every Day

Preparing for adulthood isn't just about services and programs—it's also about building everyday skills. Encouraging individuals with I/DD to participate in daily activities such as managing a schedule, preparing simple meals, handling money, using transportation, or communicating their needs can help foster confidence and independence over time.

Small steps taken consistently can lead to meaningful progress and greater self-determination in adulthood.

đź’ˇ Start with one skill and practice it regularly. Progress happens one step at a time.
