I got my 3rd degree today. My last degree.

I really graduated on my Granny’s birthday.

She never ceases to amaze me. She always shows up. Matter of fact, a lot of times it feels like she never left. I’ve sparked conversations with people asking about you like they seen you last week. We talk about you in the group chat like you in the other room—like whatever we laughing at, you just heard it too. Zoey and DJ know you. That’s how much you still live in our hearts.

Your legacy is so good, and you raised a family of irresistible people. That’s your energy. People love us like they LOVE you. Thank you.

Everything I do, I talk to you and my mama about it (ps. She’s fresh and cusses like you and blames it on you too 🤣) I know you was tired of me and school after all the mess you helped me get away with. Cussin’ and fussin’, but still getting it done. You taught me what it looks like to do something hella hard and then stand back and admire it at the end.

Kinda like Thanksgiving—days of us cooking, then the actual day come and you go crazy with the outfit. Looking like somebody out them Black magazines you kept in the bathroom. Yesss!! I know that’s how you showed up to my graduation dinner.🔥🔥

I remember in ‘98 when I was going to school the first time. In the most loving and most gangsterest way, we went to lunch in Elizabeth, NJ… and on the way home you made a U-turn, reached behind my seat, and handed me a brown bag FULL of 1s and 5s. I mean FULL. Yoooo… 🔥🔥🔥🔥 no body couldn’t tell me nothing!!! The realest!! That was so hard. I had that $ through my first year. In cash. My Granny lit!!!

And you was there years later at a whole nother school when I burnt my fingers to crisps—and you went off on the nurse so bad for “looking at me wrong” . 🤣🤣🤣 I got stories.

My second degree came two days before my mama’s February birthday! 💜
My third—on my Granny’s birthday, 💜3/6.
And my first? 5/5… Cinco de Mayo!!! 🤣

I love it when you pop out.

I’ve become everything you ever told me you wanted me to be. And that was the best.

I’m still working, Granny. I miss you. 2026 would trip you out.

This one’s for you Granny!
