Congratulations to Balwant-Amrit Singh who has received the very prestigious Bobby Jones scholarship to study at the University of St. Andrews.
2023 Bobby Jones Scholars selected for study in Scotland | Emory University | Atlanta GA Emory College students Ben Thomas, Balwant-Amrit Singh, Alicia Yin and Carly Colen will spend the next year studying at the University of St Andrews in Scotland as recipients of the prestigious Robert T. Jones Scholarship.
The Boulis Lab is currently hiring three Research Specialists. A general description of the positions is described below:
Research Specialist
The Boulis laboratory in the department of Neurosurgery at Emory University – Atlanta, GA - is seeking a capable and self-motivated individual to assist with small and large animal care and behavior essays, histology, as well as cell culture and molecular biology experiments. The candidate should have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Our lab is primarily interested in gene therapy approaches for motor neuron diseases, novel approaches to nerve repair, and CNS tumors. JOB DESCRIPTION:
• Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
• Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
• May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
• Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
• Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
• Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
• Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Grey Matters Emory is an interdisciplinary undergraduate neuroscience journal dedicated to evolving how the public approaches, discusses, and understands the field of neuroscience. Through student-produced articles, art, and media, we aim to promote accessibility and encourage greater participation in the scientific community. We want to break down the intellectual barrier and decrease the intimidating stigma the field of neuroscience tends to have by highlighting its interdisciplinary nature.

Finally, we have leadership board applications available as well!! These are open to first-years, sophomores, and juniors who will be on the Atlanta campus by Fall 2023. A subset of applicants will be selected and contacted for interviews.

B. Managing Editor: Scientific Review (in-training): Works closely with the editor-in-chief and other managing editor(s) to organize and oversee journal production from the highest level. Specifically oversees all things related to scientific review (senior editors, production editors, checking for general scientific soundness).
C. Managing Editor: General: Works closely with the editor-in-chief and other managing editor(s) to organize and oversee journal production from the highest level. Specifically oversees all things related to general editing (senior editors, production editors, checking for general editing issues).
D. Managing Editor: Lay Review: Works closely with the editor-in-chief and other managing editor(s) to organize and oversee journal production from the highest level. Specifically oversees all things related to lay review editing (senior editors, production editors, checking for general lay accessibility issues).

Applications open for SURE 2023
Please encourage your research students to apply for the 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at Emory. The SURE program is a ten-week summer program during which undergraduate research fellows conduct full-time independent research under the direction of a faculty mentor.
Our summer researchers receive a housing award for residence on the Emory campus and a stipend to support their full-time attention to research training and professional development. Student researchers benefit from hands-on research, mentorship, networking opportunities, and graduate school preparation. SURE students come from all backgrounds and disciplines including the humanities, arts, social sciences, natural sciences, physical sciences and engineering.
