In years' past, bathrooms and kitchens were at the top of the list but according to a 2020 Market Recovery Survey by NAR, a home office takes the #1 spot with 24% of respondents saying that was most important, followed by 15% looking for space to accommodate extended family.

In addition, the survey results also show that among people who indicate they would now like to live in a different area due to COVID-19, 47% have an interest in purchasing in the suburbs, 39% cite rural areas, and 25% indicate a desire to be in small towns.
