Genetic health panels are ready to be sent off!

These five panels are for dogs that I bred and retained in my program. Before any litter is ever planned, the dam is fully health tested and the sire is selected only if he has completed all recommended health clearances as well.

Because both parents were thoroughly tested, I fully expect these results to come back clear of the major inherited diseases that Labrador Retriever Club, Inc. recommends breeders screen for.

So why test these dogs again if I already know their parents were clear?

Because responsible breeding is about more than assumptions—it is about verification, transparency, and accountability.

Genetic testing serves several important purposes:

• It confirms that each individual dog is clear and does not carry inherited conditions of concern.
• It provides official documentation to share with future puppy owners.
• It ensures every dog in my breeding program has a complete and verifiable health record.
• It demonstrates my commitment to ethical breeding practices and continual due diligence.

Responsible breeders do not rely solely on the health status of parents or grandparents when making breeding decisions. We verify every generation, maintain accurate records, and take every possible step to protect the long-term health and well-being of the breed.

That means dotting every “i,” crossing every “t,” and doing the extra work even when the outcome is expected.

For me, this is part of being an ethical breeder and preserving the health, temperament, and integrity of the Labrador Retriever for generations to come.

This weekend we spent our days in Waleska at Etowah HRC and what a weekend it was.

We brought 3 dogs, and all 3 passed their tests! Including Saur earning his title!

Normally, the title would be the highlight for me—but this weekend belonged to Hoax.

Our sweet, chaotic, supercharged V12 engine of a 47lb dog finally put 2 + 2 together. 2025 tests had not been kind to her. Between overshooting marks, ignoring direction thanks to sheer excitement, running off with birds, and even swimming in place for minutes waiting for another bird to fall from the sky at a test… she’s given us plenty of moments where all you can do is laugh.

But this weekend, I was finally on the other end of her leash—and she showed me her growth.

Her land marks were clean and confident. Her water work was strong, with just a small early exit. And every time, she brought her bird back to Mama. Two passes, both days. I couldn’t be prouder—of her maturity, her progress, and the teamwork we’re building… all while keeping her signature Hokey Pokey flair.

Saur was a powerhouse as always, holding birds beautifully thanks to Auntie Peyton’s help.

Sparx was simply perfect. Her steadiness, focus, and those bold water entries are something I will never get tired of watching.

We also had the best crew with us:

* Bekah Braswell from Collett Gun Dog Kennels cheering on her favorite crazy brown labs
* Laura Brown Johnston bringing FBR Sam to his very first test to see what all the excitement is about
* Peyton Moebs running her FBR crew for manners work—and doing an awesome job running Haze as test dog

Weekends like this are about more than ribbons and titles (although … We LOVE OUR RIBBONS AT FBR 🤭). No matter what you do with your dogs, take the time to enjoy them—and the people you share them with.
