Chispa Project

Last week, we had the privilege of training the 16 teachers who make up our newest Reading Corner network in Macuelizo, Honduras.

Many of these educators teach in 1- or 2-classroom schools, where they alone are responsible for students across multiple grade levels. That's where our books come in! A diverse classroom library allows every child to find a book at their own reading level, while our workshops equip teachers with practical strategies to turn those books into engaging learning experiences for everyone in the room.

But one of the greatest strengths of a Reading Corner network goes beyond the books. By coming together, these teachers create relationships, share solutions, encourage one another, and form a support system that will continue long after the workshop ends.

When we invest in teachers, we're investing in every child they'll inspire to become a lifelong reader.

La semana pasada tuvimos el privilegio de capacitar a los 16 docentes que forman parte de nuestra nueva red de Rincones de Lectura en Macuelizo, Honduras.

Muchos de estos docentes trabajan en escuelas de una o dos aulas, donde ellos solos son responsables de estudiantes de varios grados al mismo tiempo. ¡Ahí es donde entran nuestros libros! Una biblioteca diversa en el aula permite que cada estudiante encuentre un libro acorde a su nivel de lectura, mientras que nuestros talleres brindan a los docentes estrategias prácticas para convertir esos libros en experiencias de aprendizaje dinámicas y significativas para todos los estudiantes del aula.

Pero una de las mayores fortalezas de una red de Rincones de Lectura va mucho más allá de los libros. Al reunirse, estos docentes crean relaciones, comparten soluciones, se animan mutuamente y forman una red de apoyo que seguirá fortaleciéndose mucho después de que termine el taller.

Cuando invertimos en los docentes, estamos invirtiendo en cada niño y niña a quienes inspirarán para convertirse en lectores para toda la vida.

You know you've built a strong reading habit when the teacher doesn't have to lead reading time anymore.

In Profe Blanquita's 5th-grade classroom at Latinoamericana Elementary School, students have taken ownership of their daily reading routine. Two student leaders distribute books, keep track of the 15-minute reading session, collect the books afterward, and remind their classmates to log their reading.

The best part? They do it because of how much they genuinely enjoy reading.

When children take ownership of their reading, they're building habits that can last a lifetime. That's exactly the kind of reading culture we're working to create in every Chispa Project library!

¡Sabes que has construido un fuerte hábito de lectura cuando la docente ya no tiene que dirigir el tiempo de lectura!

En el aula de quinto grado de la Profe Blanquita, en la CEBG Latinoamericana, los propios estudiantes se han adueñado de su rutina diaria de lectura. Dos líderes estudiantiles reparten los libros, controlan los 15 minutos de lectura, los recogen al finalizar y recuerdan a sus compañeros registrar lo que leyeron.

¿La mejor parte? Lo hacen porque realmente disfrutan leer.

Cuando las niñas y los niños se apropian de la lectura, están formando hábitos que pueden acompañarlos toda la vida. ¡Ese es exactamente el tipo de cultura lectora que queremos construir en cada biblioteca de Chispa Project!
