Friends and advocates are grieving after a transgender woman was found shot dead at an Augusta park Saturday.
"HRC is mourning the loss of Felycya Harris, a transgender woman killed in Meadowbrook Park in Augusta, Ga.," said Elizabeth Bibi, the senior communications adviser for the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBTQ-advocacy group.
Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen ruled the death a homicide after an autopsy Monday. Harris, 33, was pronounced dead at 2:35 p.m. at the park, Bowen said.
Family and friends reacted with shock and circulated "Justice for Felycya" posts on social media. Harris taught dance, worked in a furniture store and had more than 4,130 followers on Facebook.
Harris' body was found at Meadowbrook Park, a small city park in south Augusta next to Butler Creek and Meadowbrook Elementary School.

An investigation is ongoing after a fight during a high school basketball practice ended with one student seriously injured.
The Richmond Board of Education Incident Report says officers were called to Butler High School on May 28 around 7:50 p.m.
When they arrived, they learned two students had argued during practice and one of the students hit the other in the head. Students now say that teen was struck in the head with a barbell.
That student, according to the report, suffered a fractured skull and required emergency surgery as a result of the incident.
The teen's mother says the student is now battling serious brain damage and uncertainty abounds with the condition.
The teen's mother has asked to remain anonymous.
"The main concern is to make sure he's not going to have seizures later on in life," the mother said. 'That he's not suffering from any type of nerve condition."
The heavy weight of the mom's fear is nearly identical to the weight of the incident, which has led to aggravated assault charges for the other student. "And the guy end up coming and going into the weight room, getting the metal pipe to hit him in the side of his head," the mother said.
For her son, a basketball college career was his future. Now doctors are not even sure about his present.
The mom has a request for those paying attention to this story: prayer. She wants prayers for her son, the student who hit her son, and the school.
As for the school, the mom claims cameras in the gym that should have been watching the students were not working. School officials, meanwhile, are looking into it.
