New Brookland Tavern is incredibly essential to underground music, not just in the southeast, but for national tour packages. We cannot state clearly enough how critically important these donations are. We may not have had the chance to play there yet as a band, but we’ve all been going to/playing NBT shows for years and this venue will always have a special place in our hearts.

Final update for everyone, we’ve had a lot of questions on what’s going on and what our next step is.

We did not want to post this, but we don’t really have a choice at this point. It’s either this, or all shows will be relocated and NBT will close for good. Our last gofundme was incredibly crucial to our survival but we feel like we need to offer something substantial for donors which we have included a tier system for donating.

Monday we received the news that until the previous owners tax debt (not cotton gin, former NBT owner) is paid in full - we wouldn’t be able to open our doors. I was able to get them to agree to do a deal but it would require us to pay $15,000 down before we will be allowed to open again and a payment plan for the rest. To some of you this is probably confusing as to why this is happening but there is a SC tax law that basically lays out that the “goodwill” of the business is the same which immediately forces us to be subject to all licensing being withheld til it’s fixed which the previous owner cannot afford to do.

This combined with the absurd insurance quotes from liquor liability makes it incredibly difficult for us to survive, let alone meet these goals without having to be closed for months. The previous tax debt, liquor liability insurance, electrical repairs in the kitchen, ada accessibility - there’s a lot of stuff we have to fix.

Our main goal is to pay what we need to open our doors and go from there, but that will subject us to further setbacks along the way esp if we can’t sell alcohol - which is where the liquor liability comes in. If we do not meet this goal within a reasonable timeframe, we will have to consider closing up for good.
