With several days of dangerous heat and high humidity in the forecast, Aurora EMS encourages everyone to take extra precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones from heat-related illnesses.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:
💧Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors in air conditioning whenever possible.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
🌳 Take frequent breaks if you must work or exercise outdoors.
🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle—even for a minute.
👵 Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

⚠️ Know the warning signs:
• Heat Exhaustion: Heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, nausea, headache, cool or clammy skin.
• Heat Stroke: Hot, dry skin (or heavy sweating), confusion, loss of consciousness, seizures, or a body temperature above 103°F.

🚑 Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If someone is showing signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately. While waiting for help, move them to a cooler area and begin cooling them with cool water, ice packs, or wet towels if possible.

Stay hydrated, stay cool, and take care of one another. A few simple precautions can prevent a serious emergency.
