A sea of purple descended upon Barbers Hill High School as the Bay Area Relay for Life, Texas' largest, hosted its annual fundraiser walk, bringing together the community to raise more than $370,000 for the American Cancer Society in support of cancer research and patient services. Susan LeBlanc, District Director for Chambers County, has been a dedicated participant for many years and this year her son led the survivor lap carrying the banner marking 21+ years of survival. Thank you Chambers County and Baytown for making this event a resounding success each year, honoring survivors and working towards finding a cure.

It was my honor to present several State of Texas Proclamations to some very deserving students from the Anahuac FFA Agricultural Mechanics Team, and their teacher Mr. Lane, at Anahuac High School last week. These students excelled in their competitions at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The students showed me their projects and explained them to me thoroughly. Mr Lane and these young folks parents have done a great job in mentoring and encouraging these students all the waytothe finish.

Sebastian Heiskanen faced off against 4-H and FFA exhibitors from across the state in the Agricultural Mechanics Project Show; after presenting to hundreds of spectators during his exhibition, he won first place out of 535 projects competing in the showmanship class, earning the Grand Champion Showmanship Award. He additionally placed second in the welding trailer class.

The Anahuac Panthers also took home honors in several other categories. Team members Stephen Desormeaux, Landin Kramer, and Logan Kramer were awarded a blue ribbon for their 10-foot bumper pull utility trailer, and Trevor Chapman, Jared Sosa, and Maddix Hues were honored with the same distinction for
their 20-foot gooseneck trailer. The team also received valuable contributions from Jakob Jimenez and Angel Muniz Perez, who were unable to attend the contest

These students and Mr Lane spent countless hours of preparation and they have all shown unwavering commitment to excellence. They have brought tremendous credit to both their school and community. We take great pride in your outstanding accomplishments!

I was so happy to have supported the Safe Haven Baby Boxes law in the 88th Legislature. A measure that offers a compassionate and secure option for mothers in crisis who are unable to care for their newborns. The exterior door locks automatically when a newborn is placed inside, and an interior door allows medical personnel to promptly and securely retrieve the baby, ensuring immediate care and protection of the baby while giving those moms who choose life anonymity.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes are a vital resource, providing a lifeline for mothers and a safe beginning for their newborns. Chambers County is now the 18th Safe Haven Baby Box in Texas since the law was passed in 2023.

Thank you Loretta Emmons for leading this effort along with the Chambers County Republican Women and numerous donors. All your hard work is worth saving just one life. Thank you Chambers County EMS and Ryan Holzaepfel for making this possible and for all you do each and everyday to save lives.
