ACL rehab is more than just having a strong quad.
Getting back to the field is more than just passing a single leg hop test or Y balance.
Crossing the 10 month mark doesn’t mean you’re ready.
A comprehensive ACL rehab program has many parts. Being able to navigate through all phases and address all the qualities needed for an athlete to feel ready mentally and be ready physically to return to play is what separates good rehab from elite rehab.
The sad reality is the high percentage (35-45%) of athletes that tear their ACL and don’t make it back to the field.
This is a tough stat to read. Despite ACL tears being one of the most common injuries with some of the most research around it, we still see such wildly different approaches to treating it!
Don’t settle for care that doesn’t set you up to get you back on the field!
If you’re not sure if your rehab lives up, comment “GAMETIME” on this post and we’ll send you our ‘ACL Comeback Check’!
It’s a way to assess the quality of rehab you’re going through or about to go through (also great for if you completed ACL rehab in the past and you don’t feel like you reached the level you should have)!

It’s ALWAYS the diagnosis.
Look imaging and all of its technology is amazing. Hands down.
But it’s too often the first thing we run for to be sure there’s nothing seriously wrong.
When you haven’t…
A. Sustained a trauma
B. Shown any red flags
C. TRULY failed conservative therapy
(a lot to unpack on C)
…knowing the exact tissue that’s hurt and slapping a diagnosis tag on it isn’t all that necessary.
It can add more stress or fear and honestly just eats up time that you could have started a recovery process.
As usual there is always nuance and this isn’t medical advice.
Seek out a high quality health care practitioner that will take the time to listen to you and understand your situation if you’re dealing with something that’s keeping you from your go to sports and activities.

We need a new default.
Too often prolonged rest is the default for any injury that isn’t going away after the first couple of days.
