But this is the general progression for the step-by-step how to teach a ✨new sound:

1️⃣ Isolation: focus on getting 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 & saying the JUST the sound
2️⃣ Syllables: put a vowel in front of the sound ("uh𝐤") or behind the sound ("𝐤ee") - see which one the child does better with & go from there!
3️⃣ One syllable: consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) refers to the 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗨𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗𝗦 (aka "phonemes") in the word, NOT the actual letters, so "buc𝐤," although spelled CVCC is pronounced "b" / "uh" / "𝐜𝐤" CVC
4️⃣ Multisyllabic: instead of the individual sounds (phonemes) in the word, now you're focusing on 𝗦𝗬𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗦. Start with 2 syllables ("awa𝐤e") & move up as progress is made! (3 = "𝐤angaroo," 4 = "𝐤indergarten")
5️⃣ Phrases: keep it 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 (2-3 words) & play around with 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 you place target word in the phrase ("𝐤eep going!" "that is 𝐜ool")
6️⃣ Rotating sentences: use the 𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗘 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗵𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲 (ex: "he got a...") & rotate the target words into that phrase (ex: "he got a 𝐤𝐞𝐲", "he got a 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬", "he got a 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧", etc)
7️⃣ Unique sentences: now change up the sentences & play around with where you put the target words within the sentences!
8️⃣ Stories/conversations: even if a child cannot yet read, you can & should choose stories & center conversations around 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱! This gradually teaches them to monitor themselves with larger discourse
