Older adults are heavily targeted because scammers know many have retirement savings, established credit histories, and financial accounts. But this is not only a senior issue anymore. Employees are targeted through fake login alerts. Business owners through payment requests. Parents through emotional emergency scams. Remote workers through file-sharing links and fake supervisor messages. The scam changes depending on the person receiving it. That is why generic advice like “be careful online” is not enough anymore. Verification habits matter more than instinct. Before sending money, sharing information, clicking links, or responding to urgent requests:
• Pause • Verify • Use a trusted contact method
Ask someone if something feels off. The goal of modern scams is speed and emotional pressure. Slowing down is often the best defense.
