On this project, we are adopting proven European sealing techniques to ensure the building envelope is as resilient as possible. We’re using the illbruck ME508 Duo Window Membrane for our exterior seals.

Here is the building science behind why we use this specific material:
• Intelligent Moisture Management: The ME508 is part of an intelligent membrane range that features humidity variable vapour permeability. It effectively manages moisture, keeping driving rain out while allowing trapped water vapour to diffuse and escape the wall cavity.
• Extreme Weather Protection: It acts as an external weather-tight seal that boasts a 1050 Pa driving rain resistance.
• Structural Bond: We bond it directly to the weather sheathing board behind the external skin. The high-strength adhesive grips virtually any substrate, ensuring the seal won’t fail over time.
• UV Stable: By installing the branded fleece side facing outwards, the membrane is UV resistant for up to 6 months prior to being covered by the final cladding.

By utilizing systems that fulfill strict European EnEV requirements for airtightness, we are ensuring our builds are highly energy-efficient and protected from the elements for the long haul.
