Dear Front Porch friends,
I've missed our gatherings at Scholz' and everywhere else! While we've been in dormant mode, we've also been thinking through a couple of exciting new options. I'll keep you posted!
But right now I want to call your attention to a very "Front Porchy" event: Interfaith Action of Central Texas - iACT hosts a conversation on race at A Night Under One Sky on October 27th @ 7pm.
We'll also have a moderated panel discussion on what anti-Racism might look like. The recent head of LBJ School of Public Affairs, Dr. Edwin Dorn, is on the panel. So is Chris Hyams, CEO of Indeed.com, along with Muna Hussaini of Muslim Space, and Rev. Dr. Daryl Horton, pastor of historic Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will be interviewed by iACT's executive director, Simone Talma Flowers, as part of our program, The Path to Racial Justice: Allies and Co-Conspirators for Good.
iACT is on the front lines of inter-Faith conversations and serves hundreds of refugees, elderly, and disabled people. Here is the link to the event on the website page: http://interfaithtexas.org/night-under-one-sky-2020/. I hope to see your luminous faces on the one-hour zoom on the 27th!
Blessings,
Stephen Kinney

We had a great run! Time to move on... -
We had a great run! Time to move on... Dearest Friends, It’s become clear to me over the past few months of personal discernment that the Front Porch has run its course and given its gift. As has been famously said, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” We’ve had a great run and a gra...

Dear Friends, I/we owe you a newsletter to update you on all that is happening (and it'll be out in 2 weeks). In the meantime, we're all scrambling to meet the needs of so many of us in our community. I'm focused on helping the refugee families that Interfaith Action of Central Texas - iACT serves. The Front Porch mission of dialogue across our divides is why I'm such a fan of iACT.
I would not ask you to support iACT, if I didn’t believe in their extraordinary mission. Over the past 35 years, iACT has earned the trust of most of Austin’s many diverse Faith Communities--they leverage this trust to bring diverse people together to do good for all…together! There is no other group in Austin who can do what they can do.
Their mission is indispensable and needed now more than ever. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, iACT has been working to assist some of the most vulnerable and most impacted people in central Texas, providing basic human needs and connections—while continuing to cultivate diversity, inclusion and kindness.
The prestigious and popular “Hope Awards”, originally scheduled for April 22 at the Bob Bullock Museum, is now COURAGE TO HOPE, a virtual fundraiser and celebration to bring the community together via a live Zoom event on May 12th, 6:30pm. You are invited and I hope you’ll be part of it. For more information or to become a sponsor or supporter, please click the link below. Thank you!
Courage to Hope The Hope Awards, originally scheduled for April 22 , is now a virtual fundraiser and celebration to ensure the critical work of iACT continues.
