A message from our CEO, Susan Ramirez:

“Let it be about the kids.”

Those are the very first words you’ll see when you walk into the Foster Care Community Center.

They’re not just words. They’re a promise.

In 2017, we walked alongside a single foster mom raising three teenage boys. One of those boys tragically took his own life.

In the days that followed, our community showed up. Cards, flowers, and candles filled her porch, a beautiful display of love and solidarity during an unimaginable season.

A few days after the funeral, I stood with her at her kitchen counter.

Through tears, she looked at me and said, “Susan, this system is not about the best interests of the kids. Please let every decision you make be about the kids.”

I promised her I would.

Nine years later, that promise greets every person who enters our building.

It sits on the hospitality desk as a reminder to every staff member, volunteer, donor, partner, and family: Be about the kids.

When our architects asked me what I wanted this building to feel like, my answer was simple:
“A big warm hug.”

Together, we chose colors, textures, furniture, and finishes that create belonging because every child, youth, caregiver, and family who walks through our doors deserves to know they matter.

They deserve beauty, dignity, and a place where they belong.
