Green Gate Farms

As we redesigned our farm into an agricultural community with tiny homes 10 years ago, Skip and I insisted that a community garden be part of the plan. Having farmed in east Austin since 2006, we shared our neighbors concern about the lack of access to local food/grocery stores.

Despite tremendous odds, the 60-bed Bergstrom Community Garden is now a reality. Thanks goes to Garden Club members who met monthly for years to shepherd this project. And a standing ovation goes to Village Farm resident Brandy Beverly who persevered and persevered some more. We are delighted with how this resident-led initiative has already brought beauty and bounty to our neighborhood.

Finally, some April showers! Today’s rain means our historic farm (beside ) is glistening so please join us this evening for our monthly First Thursday farm tour and update. This month we have shares of vegetables and flower bouquets for sale too. Be sure to sign up for our new Wednesday CSA featuring veggies, meat and dairy from , the only farmers co-op of its kind in the region.
