⚠️ New World Screwworm: What Pet Owners Need to Know ⚠️

New World Screwworm (NWS) is a parasitic fly whose larvae (maggots) feed on the living tissue of warm-blooded animals, including pets. Female flies lay eggs in wounds or body openings, and once the eggs hatch, the larvae can cause severe, painful tissue damage that worsens quickly.

🐾 Signs to watch for:
• Maggots visible in a wound, ears, nose, eyes, mouth, or other body openings
• Wounds that rapidly worsen
• Foul odor from a wound
• Bleeding or discharge from an affected area

The best protection is prevention. We strongly recommend keeping all dogs and cats on monthly parasite prevention products that are FDA-approved to treat New World Screwworm:

If you notice maggots on your pet or have concerns about a wound that isn't healing normally, contact your veterinarian immediately. New World Screwworm infestations require prompt veterinary attention.
