One of the best lessons I ever learned was this:

You don’t have to invent the path.

You can learn it.

Too many people think success comes from being completely original.

In reality, most successful people are incredible students.

They observe.

They ask questions.

They model habits that already produce results.

That doesn’t mean becoming a copy of someone else.

It means understanding the principles behind why they succeed.

Discipline.
Consistency.
Communication.
Decision making.
Work ethic.

Those things can all be learned.

The question isn’t, “Who’s better than me?”

The better question is, “Who has what I want, and what can I learn from them?”

That’s where growth starts.

We had the chance to sit down with Dmitry from up in Minnesota.

It wasn’t a conversation about shingles.

It was a conversation about building something that lasts.

We talked about:
• The Moncla family story
• How Cool Roofs got started
• Where the roofing industry is headed
• Why regulations matter
• The culture we’re building
• Our vision for the future

One thing we believe is this:

Anybody can build roofs.

Building great people and a great company takes a whole lot more.

The episode drops this Friday. Looking forward to sharing it with y’all.

Your insurance policy belongs to you, the homeowner.

The first step in the claims process should always be handled by the policyholder. Once the claim is filed, that's where a qualified roofing contractor can step in to help.

We can:

Inspect and document storm damage
Meet with the adjuster
Explain repair methods
Provide estimates
Discuss building code requirements
Complete the repairs correctly

Everyone has a role to play, and when each person stays in their lane, the claims process is smoother for everyone.

Not all shingles are created equal.

If you're comparing roofing estimates, don't just look at the final price.

Look at what you're actually getting.

Some shingles are thicker, heavier, and designed for higher performance. Because of that, they require more material per roofing square, which increases both material costs and installation logistics.

A lower-priced estimate may include a standard architectural shingle, while a higher-priced estimate could include a premium product with enhanced durability, appearance, and performance.

Before making your decision, ask:

What shingle is being installed?
Is it a standard or premium product?
What's included in the roofing system?

The best value isn't always the lowest price. It's understanding exactly what you're paying for.

Southeast Austin homeowners: This is your sign to get your roof inspected.

A few months ago, a hailstorm moved through Southeast Austin.

It wasn't the biggest storm Texas has ever seen, but it caused enough damage that we're seeing insurance companies approve roof replacements throughout this neighborhood.

We've already helped homeowners who thought they only had a small leak or a few missing shingles. After a full inspection, we found storm damage that qualified for a complete replacement.

If your home has solar panels, don't let that stop you. In many covered claims, insurance also pays for the removal and reinstallation of the solar system so the roof can be replaced properly.

If you've been putting off an inspection, now is the time.

The best contractors explain construction, not insurance policies.

During an insurance claim, it's important that everyone stays in their lane.

Our role as contractors is to explain:

The repairs your home needs
The materials required
Building code requirements
Manufacturer installation standards
The labor and coordination needed to complete the job correctly

Our role is not to interpret your insurance policy or tell you what is and isn't covered.

When contractors focus on construction and adjusters focus on coverage, homeowners receive the guidance they need and the project moves forward the right way.

A new roof is only part of the process.

After an insurance claim is approved, many homeowners aren't sure what comes next. Between insurance payments, mortgage companies, and required paperwork, the process can feel overwhelming.

That's where we step in.

At Cool Roofs, we don't just build roofs. We help guide homeowners through the entire process, answer questions, and make sure nothing gets overlooked so your project stays on track.

If you think your roof has storm damage, we're here to help from inspection to completion.

RCV doesn't always mean you get one big insurance check.

This is one of the biggest misconceptions homeowners have.

Even with a Replacement Cost Value (RCV) policy, the insurance company typically doesn't pay the full replacement cost upfront.

Here's how it usually works:

• The insurance company determines the replacement cost.
• They subtract depreciation and your deductible.
• You receive an initial ACV payment.
• Once the roof is replaced and the work is documented, the recoverable depreciation is released.

The goal of an RCV policy is to cover the cost of replacing your roof after a covered loss, but it's often paid in stages.

Understanding that process can help you avoid surprises during your claim.

Why is my insurance check so much lower than the cost of a new roof?

The answer may be Actual Cash Value (ACV).

Think about auto insurance.

If your truck is totaled, the insurance company doesn't buy you a brand-new truck. They pay what your truck was worth based on its age, mileage, condition, and depreciation.

Many homeowners insurance policies work the same way.

With an ACV policy, your roof is valued based on its age and condition, not what it costs to replace it today. That's why the first check can be much lower than homeowners expect.

Understanding your coverage before you ever file a claim can save you from a lot of surprises.
