Here's a long but fascinating conversation between myself and novelist, Joe Clifford. We discuss art, and artists, and why we keep creating in a world that is growing increasingly more difficult to make a buck and survive off of the tens of thousands of hours of effort we put in.
It's available to all of my Patreon members. You can join for free just by clicking the Join This Community button.
Of course, you can also sign up to support me with a buck or two. I post four times a month. And by signing up you gain access to scores and scores of singles, over 15 albums, podcast episodes, and so much more.
Lives of Quiet Desperation... | Mike TV & Get Set Go Get more from Mike TV & Get Set Go on Patreon
Patreon has literally been my life-line since 2014. It's really a place where my hard-core fans and closest friends and family stay in touch with the bleeding edge of my endeavors.
I've got four albums slotted for release in 2025. All the basic tracks for these records are complete (drums, bass, acoustic guitars, scratch (possibly not) vocals, tambourine, shaker). All of which are gifted to my Patreon patrons for free.
I also have a songwriting course that I'm gonna be launching in the next few months, where I walk folks through the methodology that has allowed me to write between 1 and 2 thousands songs since starting out in 1996. I'll be providing excerpts and a truncated version to my Patreon patrons for free.
I'm working on an app to celebrate the sounds and the bands of the old Mr. T's/Kiss or Kill scene. It's starting out as an homage and tribute app but, I think it might have application way beyond that. My Discord and Patreon communities will have access to the app right from the start.
I've just recently started live-streaming again, five days a week, Monday through Friday. I'm gonna edit down the best bits of the week's streams and give them to my Patreon patrons. Again, for free.
And if this is something that interests you, you can join up for free. Just by clicking the Join This Community button.
If you feel that my efforts are worth money (sad to say, in all the world, only 100 people do, so you're in good company if you don't) you could always pledge a few bucks. I post 4 posts a month. There's usually music, art, albums, videos, or giveaways included with each post.
I've been doing this since 2014, so if you wanted to join up, you'd have access to a whole heck of a lot of stuff, right out the gate.
Heck, you could game the whole system, donate a buck, download all my stuff, and then immediately leave my community. That's the Trump way. That's the Musk way. No empathy. No losing. Only winning.
Wow, how did this post get political? Sheesh. I need to get outside and take a walk.
If you read this far, you're nuts. Go outside and take a walk, silly goose.
...
Seriously, still reading?
Uh...
This is getting a bit weird.
And I really want to take off. (Need to p*e)
But, I'm also sorta loving this bit.
So, I'm of two minds.
Which is actually a song I wrote.
Of Two Minds, is the name of the song.
Where I sing two completely different parts over each other the entire song.
It's sorta crazy.
But, also sorta amazing.
It's on my album, Furthermore, from 2015.
You can listen for free on Bandcamp.
Yes, you can also listen on Spotify.
But Spotify is destroying the way we think about music, engage with music, and feel about music.
Which is why I'm building the app.
You know the one that's a tribute to the old scene.
Because I think I can create a better dialogue between bands and their listeners.
Actually, reducing fans to listeners is sorta gross.
As if they're actually just clinically listening.
I like "fan" but I don't think it describes all the people that pay attention to what an artist does.
Maybe we could split them into "supporters" and the "curious".
Both of those feel right.
Okay, as of now, can we agree to call people that pay attention to the art that an artist makes, particularly musicians, either supporters or the curious.
