ACTIVATED. With significant rainfall and the potential for more flash flooding in the forecast, Austin firefighters are prepared.
In coordination with the disaster declaration issued by Mayor Kirk Watson and Travis County Judge Andy Brown, the Austin Fire Department and Austin Police Department Helicopter Search & Rescue Team (HART) has been activated and stands ready to assist Austin and neighboring communities if needed.
If you encounter flooded roadways, don’t take the risk.
Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Just a few inches of moving water can sweep a vehicle away, and every avoidable rescue puts both the public and first responders at unnecessary risk.
Stay weather aware and stay safe.

ANIMAL RESCUE. Not every emergency involves flames or flashing lights—sometimes, it’s a handful of tiny ducklings in need of a helping hand.
Austin Firefighters recently responded to assist Austin Animal Protection after concerned citizens reported several baby ducklings had fallen into a storm drain while following their mother. As traffic passed nearby, the mother duck became startled and flew away, leaving her little ones trapped below.
Working alongside Austin Animal Protection officers, firefighters removed the storm drain cover, set a ladder into the drain, and carefully climbed down to rescue each tiny duckling. One by one, the little fluff balls were gently placed into a bucket and safely brought back to the surface before being turned over to Animal Protection, who transported them to Austin Wildlife Rescue for care.
This rescue is a great reminder that serving our community means helping wherever we’re needed—whether it’s a person, a pet, or a family of ducklings. We’re proud to work alongside our partner agencies every day to keep both the people and the critters of Austin safe.
And trust us—you won’t want to miss the last photo. 🥹 Swipe all the way to the end for an adorable close-up of the tiny ducklings that made this rescue one to remember. 🦆💛

CRASH ➡️VEHICLE FIRE. It only takes a split second.
One distraction. One missed light. One wrong decision. That’s all it takes to turn an ordinary drive into a vehicle engulfed in flames.
Austin firefighters recently responded to a serious crash in Northeast Austin where one of the vehicles caught fire. These are the moments we train for—but they’re also the moments we hope never happen.
As we head into the Fourth of July holiday, our roads will be busier than usual. More traffic means more opportunities for tragedy if we’re not paying attention.
Please slow down. Put the phone away. Buckle up. Don’t drive impaired. Stay alert.
We want everyone to make it home safely to celebrate with the people they love—not become the next emergency we respond to.
This Fourth of July, help us keep the sirens off your street.
