As said by Huston-Tillotson University’s 2025-2026 SGA President, Miss Sky Turntine, our Semester Starter Kits Initiative came just at the right time!

From my personal experience at Virginia State University, once my family dropped me off at my dorm and moved everything in, I was completely out and needed toiletries restocked by early September! As a result I am choosing to be an agent of change/support by reaching back into HBCU’s nationwide not only because I am a product of the Illustrious VSU, but because I know firsthand of the Power embedded in HBCUs & how they are filled with so much rich history, knowledge, and talent!

Last year, thanks to the generosity of our community, Scoop Alumni Collective provided 120 incoming college students with Semester Starter Kits filled with essential dorm, classroom, and personal care items.

This year, we’re aiming even higher.

Our goal is to serve 350 incoming freshmen—nearly three times as many students—as they begin one of the most important chapters of their lives.

For many students, these basic necessities can ease financial stress and allow them to focus on what matters most: succeeding in college.
