Memorial Day began after the Civil War as a time to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in military service to our country. Originally known as Decoration Day, families and communities would gather to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags.

Today, Memorial Day is both a time of remembrance and a reminder to appreciate the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.
