Privacy was a priority for these clients, which is a common request. But this project came with an interesting challenge.

The house already had a strong architectural identity, and a typical privacy solution such as a tall fence or dense hedge would have competed with it rather than complemented it.

Instead, the solution became part of the architecture itself: a stucco courtyard wall. Low enough to maintain an open, welcoming presence from the street, yet tall enough to create a sense of arrival, enclosure, and refuge once inside.

By borrowing the material language of the house, the wall feels like it has always belonged there. Privacy is achieved, but the architecture is not hidden behind it. In fact, it is strengthened by it.

That is the kind of problem solving we love. How do you create the privacy clients want without making a home feel closed off or defensive? More often than not, the answer is not adding more. It is choosing the right materials, proportions, and height.

Good design does not hide architecture. It helps it do more.
