What’s a great way to spend a portion of an Abrome day? Some of the teenage Abromies felt that spending the day with cats would be just about purrfect. So, they made a trip to visit the Purr-fecto Cat Lounge in south Austin to share their love with some new feline friends. The human Abromies and the cats they met all gave it two thumbs and two claws up, respectively. However, Cuddle Buddies Ivan and Ingrid back at Abrome were quite miffed at the shifting attention from dogs to cats.

The use of indoor space at the Abrome facility continues to evolve primarily through the efforts of the younger Abromies. Their curiosity, playfulness, and developing abilities to manage their time, entertain themselves, and recruit collaborators into their various schemes keeps each day interesting and novel. Many people fear that if children are not forced to sit down and work on adult directed activities that they will squander their time and fail to learn. But that is not so. One, they are always learning and it takes a truly dedicated staff of educators to shut that down. Two, learning that aligns with their interests and needs, particularly in the context of a caring community, is the most powerful learning.
