Our Story

The Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation began in 2006 in memory of a little girl named Libbie, who lost her lifelong battle with leukemia at the tender age of five. The mission of the Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation is to provide relief to Central Texas children with cancer as they fight the greatest battle of their young lives.

After Libbie’s death, her mother, Becky, vowed to keep Libbie’s memory alive by helping other families whose children battled this deadly disease. She and her family opened A Trip to Bountiful Bakery & Café, located in Austin, to directly support the Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation. The foundation’s Comfort Through Food program provides children in cancer treatment with comfort foods and celebration cakes. The Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation became a 501(c)3 organization in 2012.

The partnership of the bakery and foundation contributed to the program’s successful start, but Becky felt early on that the bakery would be her segue into focusing full time on the Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation. It’s where her heart had been from the very beginning. In 2014 the Nichols Family closed the bakery and now rent a licensed commercial kitchen for the Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation where she produces all of the wonderful comfort foods they provide through the Comfort Through Food Program.

The Loving Libbie Memorial Foundation exists to support families in their fight against cancer. Like so many community members who have experienced the devastating effects of cancer, the Nichols family experienced the loss of their precious daughter to cancer. Through years of traveling out of town for medical care and spending weeks at a time in hospitals, they discovered a gap—a child’s need for comfort food, especially when it’s difficult to eat. No other program in Central Texas supplies young cancer patients with the comforts of specialty foods while they are undergoing treatments.
