Please join me in supporting Jennifer Littlefield for the District 5 Trustee for Austin ISD!

Since announcing in June my pending retirement from the school board, I have spent the past two months learning about the people running for my seat. I am now excited to tell you I am endorsing Jennifer Littlefield as the best candidate to serve families and voters in District 5.

While all trustees work together to support the Austin Independent School District in general, those elected by specific “Districts”, such as District 5, are required to intentionally to bring the needs of their local communities forward. In other words, Jennifer is the D5 Trustee who I believe will best provide you a represented seat at the table and bring your voice to district-wide decision-making:

• Jennifer Littlefield is deeply connected to and embedded in the Austin High family of schools, making her most qualified to focus on and lead District 5 initiatives.

• Jennifer Littlefield has developed an extensive knowledge about the community engagement and building needs within District 5 and AISD as a whole, making her most capable of advocating for the renovation needs of D5 schools in the next bond.

• Jennifer Littlefield is driven through personal experience to support and improve educational opportunities for students with learning differences, making her most motivated to ensure programs and supports are provided and implemented with fidelity to every student in need.

Many of you may know Jennifer Littlefield as a mom of two children who currently attend schools within the Austin High vertical team; one is a member of the Mighty Maroon marching band while the other is an up-and-coming band member and possible Red Dragon Player, currently learning at Small. What you may not know is that Jennifer graduated from Austin High as Red Jacket dancer Jennifer Nickle. Her current and historical connection to Austin High and its feeder schools best positions Jennifer to know and support D5 families navigating AISD.

Jennifer Littlefield also brings an authentic commitment to support District 5 taxpayers and voters in future bonds. As one of the original volunteers on the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee, (i.e. FABPAC), Jennifer played an integral role in developing AISD’s 20-year Facility Master Plan and gained a profound understanding of the district’s buildings, technology, and academic needs. When you see the construction projects underway at Casis and Austin High, take note and appreciate how important it is for District 5 schools to have a dedicated trustee advocating for their futures.

Lastly, Jennifer Littlefield is the one District 5 candidate who has a personally-driven passion to continue my work to support struggling readers. As a mom of two children with dyslexia, Jennifer has watched Austin ISD improve its supports and increase student access to authentic and scientifically-proven techniques and programs that were unavailable just a few years ago. Jennifer is committed to strengthen and expand today’s practices to ensure every child in Austin learns to read.
