This is a Black Witch Moth photographed by our tech!
▪️These moths wingspan can reach up to 7 inches, and are often mistaken for bats due to size and flight patterns!
▪️Some cultures consider these good luck while others see them as a sign of death or misfortune. In Mexico they are often referred to as mariposa de la muerte (the butterly of death)
▪️These moths are migratory and fly north into the U.S. from Mexico.
▪️Although they have many superstitious tales surrounding them, they do not bite, sting, or carry any diseases.
▪️They are nocturnal and Adults prefer to feed on overripe fruit.
