Safety Officers are models of practice. Effective Safety Officers approach this role with an eye on nurturing a culture of concern versus an impersonal and bureaucratic culture of safety. The responsibility is great, but the rewards are greater. For Safety Officers who convey genuine concern for their members, the safety message becomes a cause the members believe in. When the members believe in something, compliance is not work, but a passion.
