The 6th Annual Holiday Run Crew is now open, and I've aptly renamed is The Holiday *Regulated* Crew, because that's what I want to invite you to prioritize this season.

Here’s the tl;dr of my recent
Nervous System for Rec Runners masterclass:

The state of your nervous system directly influences the narrative you have about yourself, others, and the world.

In other words, “your state shapes your story.”

So, what happens to your winter running choices,
to your office parties, festive soirees, and family gatherings,
to your list of of 10 to 207ish Holiday Things To Do

…when you’ve prioritized being in a **felt state** of safety and connection?

Winter running becomes one of many regulating tools you use to help yourself move up that hierarchy ladder to your seasonal priority of safety & connection (not another boulder to push up the holiday hill.)

Office parties, festive soirees, & family gatherings become relaxed moments to celebrate and enjoy (not events you have to dread or feel like you have perform at.)

Your list of 10-207ish Holiday Things To Do become ways to connect, share, and express yourself (not things between you and calm rest.)

All because you *experience yourself* as happy, active, interested, loving, & loveable

Remember: running is always your arena to practice the values and qualities you want to cultivate outside of running, too.

I’ll guide you through using it to cultivate our crew's priority this holiday season: a felt sense of safety & connection.

You’ll feel it inside your running practice and out. (Fa la la la la la)

Outer expectations (meet work deadlines, answer a request from a friend)

And inner expectations (keep a New Year’s resolution, start meditating).

According to Gretchen Rubin, your response to expectations determines your “Tendency”

That is, whether you’re an Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, or Rebel.

The good news?

Once you know your tendency, you can harness its strength.

Want to learn about the 4 tendencies and how they relate to goal setting?

If you were sitting in front of me I would ask you to turn towards your own Running. Personify it if you can.

What is your running asking for in the season ahead?

Don’t think about it too hard.

What comes to mind?

What does your gut say?

Is it to run further?

Faster?

Is it to develop kind consistency?

For an experience, like a retreat?

Working towards kind consistency will look very different than the type of running that will shape fast running, which will look very different than the type of running that will shape far running.

Those goals require different skills and strategies, and fall into two different types:

Habit Goal or Achievement Goal.

Interested in exploring the difference between a Habit Goal and Achievement Goal in your own running practice?
