Before uploading tuning to your vehicle, take a few extra minutes to verify that everything is working correctly. In this video, we’re using an L5P Duramax as an example, but these same steps apply to virtually any vehicle platform.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is installing or removing hard parts before confirming the ECM and TCM are communicating properly and that the tuning process is completed successfully. If a problem comes up after you’ve already modified the truck, diagnosing the issue becomes much more difficult.

We regularly get calls from shops and customers who believe they’re dealing with a tuning or calibration problem. In reality, 9 out of 10 times the issue ends up being a hardware-related problem—a faulty sensor, wiring issue, installation mistake, or another overlooked mechanical concern.

Our recommendation is simple:

* Verify ECM and TCM communication.
* Complete the tuning process first.
* Confirm there are no communication errors or diagnostic trouble codes.
* Only then begin installing or removing hard parts.

Following this order saves time, avoids unnecessary troubleshooting, and helps ensure your vehicle performs exactly as intended.
