Out of the clear blue a few months ago I got a text from my friend Yosi “Long time, friend. I have a strange request… my new office door is screaming for gold leaf, like an old detective shop. Know of anyone who will come to Tarrytown?” Uhhh 👋🏼🙋🏻‍♂️

Yosi is in the political world fighting hard for all kinds of social justice causes. His concept for this project was “ACME Politics” a call back to the ACME of Looney Tunes, something fun and engaging. I came up with a few designs and away we went.

Originally intended to be reverse glass two-tone gold, I was so excited about this project that I failed to realize that the window is frosted, so I had to execute on the front. One tone matte 22K gold patent leaf from and painted using brushes and Gilder’s backup black.

This was a full circle project for me. I met Yosi in 2010 via my friend who referred me for a project he was working on called Re:Form School, a huge art show and awareness campaign in the old and abandoned St. Patrick’s Cathedral School in LES. The show was meant to bring awareness to America’s failing public education infrastructure and how we can reform it. It was my biggest gig at that time and helped shape the rest of my career. Through that project, I met who hooked me up with someone at a major sign painting company in NYC (that I won’t name) and I got an apprenticeship. That was my introduction to the world of sign painting and I’m not sure I’d be doing it today had I not met Yosi. Full circle.
