The great Boz Scaggs is 80 today.
I've been been a devotee of Boz since he was in the Steve Miller Band in the 1960s.
Got to meet him in 2014 in Pittsburgh.
It was a dream come true to cover one my favorite Boz tune (both versions included here), with the help of a great lineup at The Sound Shop, including Todd Glass, Alex Lyon, Josh Ford, Chris Codish, John Douglas, Marcus Elliot, Keith Kaminski, Jimmy Smith, Ryland Kelly.
Whenever I do a cover song, my wife of 40+ years tells me, without irony, that my version is MUCH better than the original, which I always find cute and amusing.
Interesting side note: saxophonist Marcus Elliot had never heard the song, yet started his solo on the same note as the original guy.

June 8th is a pretty good day for music, seeing as how Derek Trucks also celebrates a birthday today.
Derek is certainly one of the greatest slide guitarists of all time. A favorite song of mine:

After realizing the studio version of the song was over six minutes long, I decided to play an abbreviated solo version, trimming off about a minute and a half.
Also gives it a bit of that old time protest song vibe, and the words are all still there.
This is the first single off an upcoming collection called Tin Ice.
Thanks for your time, whether four and a half minutes, six minutes or both.
As Curly Howard so succinctly put it, "Time marches on."

Dedicated to my brother Chris (AKA CP), fellow Stones aficionado who would have turned 75 today. This is part of a collection of more polished Stones covers done in his memory that will be appearing in the near future.
