We have Lady Bird and President Johnson to thank for Austin's Crown Jewel, Lady Bird Lake and Hike and Bike Trail! We are working to create an outdoor museum highlighting Lady Bird's and President LBJ's contributions in the Cesar Chavez Neighborhood. The outdoor museum will be located at the Historic Austin National Fish Hatchery on the Rebekah Baines Johnson (RBJ) property now known as Hatchery Park at 1207 Haskell Street. The redevelopment of the old 30 acre National Fish Hatchery is almost complete. The outdoor museum is in the planning stages and we hope people will donate original photos like this for use on our interpretive signs and website.

On This Day: Fifty-four years ago today, on December 10, 1971, LBJ assisted Lady Bird at a tree planting ceremony inaugurating Austin's Town Lake Beautification program.

Today, Town Lake is known as Lady Bird Lake.
