three test iterations. a year and a half later. one hand chain designed to be lived in.

after years of broken hand chains, i started wondering why. why everything called “gold” still seemed to snap. whether solid 14k could actually hold up.

what we learned: delicate doesn’t have to mean fragile.

plated, filled, vermeil, waterproof, tarnish-free. different names. same idea. a thin layer of gold over a weaker base metal. the gold is the coating. the structure underneath is brass, copper, or steel, and once that thin coating wears, there’s nothing left to hold the tension.

solid 14k is gold all the way through. every link permanently closed. nothing pressed together hoping to hold.
