Lesson 30: Resurrection and Kingdom Commission

Although utter darkness fell across the earth as Jesus died, the world did not stay dark. Jesus had promised many times that He would be raised to life, and this week we celebrate that event.

Yet there is more. We’ve walked with Jesus from His birth. We’ve seen and heard prophecies about Him fulfilled. We’ve stood on the banks of the Jordan with the gathered crowds and watched as John the Baptist baptized Him. At that event, “the heavens were opened to him” (3:16), and the Father voiced approval of Him. In the villages of Galilee and around the Jordan, we saw Him heal, teach, and forgive.

Through this entire journey, Jesus had led His disciples. Now here in this lesson, we will listen in as He gives them His kingdom commission—so that they, empowered by the Holy Spirit, could carry to the entire world what Jesus had given to them.

As believers, we continue that mission today, indwelt by the Holy Spirit as we wait for Jesus’s promised return.
