What's Happening at Hope-July 3

This Week's Updates The Gospel of Matthew sermon series continues this week, as we move through the book verse by verse. This Sunday, we will be looking at Matthew 12:33-37.

The Unforgivable Sin I The Gospel of Matthew I Neal Nemeth 06/29/2026

Is your assurance of your salvation shaken?

In verses 22-32 of Matthew chapter 12, Matthew begins this section by briefly describing Jesus healing and delivering a demon-possessed, blind and mute man. The fact that he seems to rush through such a powerful story is a clue that's not the main point of his writing. He spends more time addressing the idea of the Unforgivable Sin. He details the Pharisees giving Satan credit for what the Holy Spirit was doing: blaspheming the Spirit and denying Jesus as Lord. The Bible teaches that persistent, unrepentant rejection is the Unforgivable Sin.

Simply put, if you confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, that's not you. Perhaps you keep returning to similar sinful patterns and feeling shame and guilt, but you are not denying Jesus.

It's unsettling how many Christians lack a sense of assurance as it relates to their salvation. Your salvation is not based on what you do, it's based on what Jesus Christ did for you.

You can be sure you are saved, and you should be.
