A trail does what a street cannot. It moves people at a pace where they notice each other. Seven Oaks was planned this way on purpose, paths linking the neighborhoods to the parks, the schools, the shops at Belcourt, so that getting somewhere means crossing paths with neighbors rather than simply passing them by.

The Stephen J. DeBranch Memorial Trail runs through the heart of the community, decomposed granite for the runners and concrete for the walkers, connecting the business park to the shops and the neighborhoods around it, with the Kern River Bike Path still to come. The morning runners learn each other's routines. The families on evening walks end up at the same patios. A community forms in those small repeated crossings, and the trails are where they happen.
