Yet, in a profound irony of history, he resigned from his leading role with the American Red Cross in protest of their policy to segregate blood by race—a policy he proved was scientifically baseless.

His legacy is a powerful reminder: True strength lies in both intellect and integrity. He broke barriers in science while standing firmly for equality, ensuring his work healed without discrimination.
