I spent years thinking that the louder I spoke or the harder I worked, the more I could prove my love to God. I thought my exhaustion measured my devotion.

But I’ve learned that God does not look for a tireless employee. He looks for a child who knows they are loved.

When we stop striving to earn His favor, we finally find the stillness we were made for. True rest comes when we realize His unconditional love accepts us exactly as we are. We do not perform for acceptance; we rest in it because of His grace and mercy.

In the quiet, you do not hear a taskmaster. You hear a Father. You hear Abba.

He loves you because of who He is, not because of what you do. That is the Bible kind of peace that changes everything.

For a long time, I lived like God was a boss who only smiled when the work was done. I spent decades in ministry across 50 countries, always pushing, always trying to prove I was worth the effort.

But there’s a reason Jesus taught us to call God “Abba.” It’s a word of total safety. It means "Daddy."

Through 50 years of leadership and some of the darkest valleys, including my fight with Stage 4 cancer years ago, I finally learned the secret to rest. It isn't found in finishing the list. It’s found in collapsing into the arms of a Father who already loves you perfectly.

If you are tired of performing, please know this: God’s grace isn’t a reward for your spiritual effort. It’s the safety net that catches you when you stop trying to be enough. You are allowed to breathe. You are allowed to just be His child.

That is the "Bible kind" of peace. His unconditional love is the only thing that actually heals the soul. You don't have to work for it. You just have to receive His mercy.

For years, I thought my value was tied to how many countries I visited or how many messages I preached. But through the trials of the last few years, God brought me to a beautiful realization: I am first and foremost His child.

The most important "next step" isn't a new project or a busier schedule; it’s simply coming home to His grace. You don't have to perform to be loved. You are already enough in Him.

What’s one area where you’re ready to trade performance for presence today? Let's talk about it in the comments.
