Who Were the Top 10 British Bands of the 70s? Here’s our picks…
It's hard to believe that it's been over 50 years since the birth of some of the most iconic British bands of the 70s. Their style of music created a different era enjoyed by fans all over the world.
While it’s hard to pick favorites with so many great British artists, we all have our own. Here’s our top 10 favorite 70s British bands lineup...
1. Led Zeppelin: There's no doubt that Led Zeppelin is one of the most influential rock bands of all time. With hits like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Stairway to Heaven" they dominated the charts in the 1970s and continued to be one of the most popular bands to hail from British shores.
2. Pink Floyd: Another band that needs no introduction. They formed in the late 60s but flourished with 3 of their top albums in the 70s. They are best known for their concept album, "The Wall", which is often cited as one of the greatest albums of all time.
3. Yes: The band Yes included a distinguished assembly of iconic, highly-trained musicians. They had a sound all their own which separated them from typical rock music. Still people loved their more commercial hit songs like "Roundabout" and "I've Seen All Good People”. However, their albums like; “Close to The Edge” featured deep trespasses into musical landscapes that touched on classical intertwined with rock. Millions flocked through the 70s and beyond to catch Yes live. They were truly one of the most outstanding live bands in concert who always put on a most incredible show.
4. Paul McCartney and Wings: Wings made a high-impact with "Band on the Run" and a string of instant hits right out of the gate during Paul’s post Beatles days. Fans were immediately hooked and started buying their records in droves. Over the years, they released hit songs including; “My Love”, “Jet”, “Live and Let Die" and “Silly Love Songs” to name a handful. They’re one of the most memorable bands of all time.
5. David Bowie: Many of Bowie’s records are highly treasured collectables. From “Ground Control to Major Tom” all the way to, “Fame”… Bowie kept everyone in suspense changing his image and sound constantly reinventing himself. He was always ahead of the curve and pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable. Fans admired Bowie for his fearlessness dedication to his art which made him a most fascinating artist of the 70s and beyond.
6. Queen: With major hits like; “We Will Rock You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Queen rocked record sales and concert halls to make their mark. As one of the most prestigious rock bands of our time, Queen sold an estimated 300 million albums worldwide eventually helping them become inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame many years later.
7. Rod Stewart and the Faces: One of the most distinctive voices of all times with major hits like; “Maggie May” and “Tonight’s the Night”, Rod appeared on the scene almost overnight although he was singing for Jeff Beck in 69’. Rod really took off in the 70s and eventually became one of the world’s top solo artists. When Rod Stewart sings, there’s no mistaking who’s at the mic or who’s singing on the record.
8. The Police: These 3 powerful musicians had 2 hit albums out in the late 70s. When they recorded their album, "Outlandos d'Amour" it spurred 3 hit singles; "Roxanne", Can’t Stand Losing You” and "So Lonely”. They had a reggae vibe but brought it into their own rock style when they crossed-over into the 80s with other major hits. Later, Sting; who also has one of the most distinctive voices in the music business eventually went solo.
9. Supertramp: With a string of 10 hits, this band was not a 1 hit wonder. Some of their best picks of their singles are: “Take the Long Way Home", "Dreamer", "Goodbye Stranger" and “The Logical Song”. Supertramp had a significant worldwide popularity with 10 platinum albums not too many other bands had ever achieved.
10. T-Rex: “Get It On” was a 70s smash on both sides of the Atlantic. These guys had an infectious knack for mainstream hits and “Hot Love” also climbed the charts winning them high acclaim as a notable 70s band.

Why does vinyl sound better than digital?
It's no mystery that vinyl records sound better than their digital counter parts hands-down.
That said, let's delve into why. This is a great conversational piece to have in your back pocket whenever discussing vintage audio and other cool related topics.
So let's dig in...
All recorded music is a sound wave, right?
Yes, fully produced songs like your favorites have all been produced as multi-track recordings using instruments and vocals, etc. Once mastered into a final mixed blend, all the tracks are combined into a final sound wave used to create vinyl grooves and pressed into a record. And right there lies the magic. It's in the grooves because the original sound wave of the recording gets pumped physically into the vinyl right-off the master.
Now a little deeper into the science without getting lost; what is actually happening is the sound of the recording is being engraved into the grooves of the record. This is a unique process where the sound leaves its own audio footprint. On playback, the needle relays the sound by way of voltage signals that give vinyl its warm, charismatic sound.
To further this idea, it's interesting to know that analog sound grooves have many more data points than digital recordings. Read that previous line again to let it sink in...
Therefore, you're getting more of the recorded information with vinyl than digital since digital cannot store as many data points.
Wow… who knew?… Now you do!...
To really lock-in a great comparison of the 2, let's relate it to watching a beautiful movie filmed in color or watching a video. Of course you would choose film over video which is just the same when comparing Vinyl and Digital sound recordings. Case in point.
Now you're that much more of a groovy expert and how cool is that?...
