UMBC's Center for Precision Aquaculture is an interdisciplinary effort to revolutionize land-based fish production through real-time monitoring and smart technology. CSEE professor Rebecca Williams is a co-investigator on the grant and worked with CSEE professor Don Engel to advise Beamlak Bekele in developing computer vision tools to extract information about fish in underwater environments for her Computer Science MS thesis. https://ai.umbc.edu/news/post/160234/

Associate Professor Naghmeh Karimi received the 2026 College of Engineering and Information Technology Mid-Career Faculty Excellence Award for overall excellence and promise in scholarship, teaching, service, and leadership. CSEE will hold its annual Research Day on Friday, April 17, from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm in University Center 312, featuring presentations, posters, and community engagement.
