We're in the middle of our second cohort for the New Roots Black Caucus (NRBC) and the participants are going through a process of reflection and unlearning.

What's the number one thing they have identified they need to unlearn? Perfectionism!

"Every task, even a simple email, carries unrelenting pressure where I risk being seen as incompetent".

"I push myself to perform at a high level even when I am tired or stretched thin".

"Perfectionism slows me down and sometimes keeps me from moving forward at all... it blocks my growth and sometimes I miss out on the joy in the journey".

These are the words, the reflections, of our Black leaders, leading in the C- suites, building small businesses, mentoring youth, and serving our communities who are showing up scared and pushing through exhaustion because the THINK they have to be perfect.

As we enter into the liberation stage of our program, we wanted to remind them, and you, that who you are is ENOUGH. Your value isn't in doing things perfectly, but existing authentically. As one participant put it:

"I am moving from seeking external validation to establishing internal authority- defining success by the integrity of my work and freedom of my spirit".

** The New Roots Black Caucus (NRBC) is a six-month leadership program
supporting leaders of color that identify as Black or African American, through guided learning for holistic well-being, culturally rooted principles, and liberatory leadership frameworks. Co-created and facilitated by Shalita O'Neale, Rachel Dolcine, and Kijaffa Hall, the program uniquely intertwines the wisdom of indigenous practices with contemporary healing modalities to foster an environment of healing, understanding, and growth.
