The Milton S. Eisenhower symposium proudly presents this year’s theme: “2022: THE ROAD AHEAD”

From the unprecedented politicization of the Supreme Court to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the polarization of media, and the international reckoning of climate change, one thing is clear: The world we inherit is complex, puzzling, and troubling. This begs the question: How do we navigate the road ahead? The 55th edition of the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium will be hosting 4 speaker events centered around this question. Established in 1967, the Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium is a student-run lecture series at the Johns Hopkins University. Our mission is to deliver world-class speakers to the student body and surrounding community. From Senator Bernie Sanders to SNL comedian Kenan Thompson, we invite a diverse range of speakers whose analysis of important issues is fresh, cutting, and at times unsettling. As we begin to prepare for our 2022 line-up, join us as we take a look back at our history.

The Milton S. Eisenhower Symposium is honored to welcome our final speaker of the “Rebuilding Our Future” Series: Renowned comedian, actress, writer, and disability advocate Maysoon Zayid!

Hailed in Glamour as "the most fearless comic alive," Zayid has performed around the world, and headlined both the Arabs Gone Wild Comedy Tour and The Muslims Are Coming Tour, in which comedians toured the U.S. in an effort to counter Islamophobia. Zayid is also a disability advocate who fights to mainstream disabled students worldwide and for disability rights. Her bestselling memoir Find Another Dream chronicles her life story in finding her voice and own path to stardom.

Hilarious, disarming, and with a message that matters, Zayid's comedy and commentary resonate with audiences worldwide. She is the co-founder/co-executive producer of the New York Arab American Comedy Festival and The Muslim Funny Fest, and her famed TED Talk, "I got 99 problems... palsy is just one" has over 10 million views.

The MSE Symposium proudly presents our fourth speaker of the 2021 series - Dr. Marty Makary!

Dr. Marty Makary is a New York Times bestselling author and leading voice for transparency in health care. He is the recipient of the 2020 Business Book of the Year Award for “The Price We Pay,” described by Don Berwick as “a deep dive into the real issues driving up the price of health care” and by Steve Forbes as “A must-read for every American”. A professor at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, he has published over 250 scientific articles on the re-design of health care, medical innovation, and vulnerable populations. Dr. Makary has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and is Editor-in-Chief of Medpage Today.

He has written for The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today. His book Unaccountable turned into the T.V. series “The Resident.” He speaks nationally and internationally on the appropriateness of care, lifestyle choices that influence health outcomes, employee health benefits design, and health care costs.
