Over 10 million gallons of raw, untreated liquid f***s overflowed into Baltimore's waterways over the weekend. Aside from harmful bacteria and pathogens, sewage carries huge amounts of nutrients, toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and other pollutants directly into our streams and Harbor. This makes our work to ensure that the City's sewage consent decree is implemented properly all the more important as we face an increasing number of extreme weather events in the near future. In the coming weeks, see the impacts of all this sewage on our waterways at www.HarborAlert.org.
Beginning tomorrow, 6/1, we'll be posting exclusively to our Blue Water Baltimore page. Be sure to follow us there to stay up to date on all things Waterkeeper!
Weekend rain washes 10 million gallons of sewage-contaminated water into Baltimore's Jones Falls As parts of Baltimore and Howard counties flooded Sunday, the heavy rains were also washing 10 million gallons of sewage-contaminated stormwater into the Jones Falls. It was one of the largest discharges of waste city officials have reported in recent years.

There is flooding already in Ellicott City, Catonsville and our own Jones Falls with more rain expected tonight. Stay safe!
After 6/1 we'll be posting exclusively on the Blue Water Baltimore page. Remember to follow us there.
Jones Falls flooding prompts evacuation of nearby businesses The deluge of rain that caused flash flooding in Ellicott City and across the Baltimore region Sunday prompted the evacuation of at least three businesses in the city’s Woodberry neighborhood, according to the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management.

Neither did we until our Waterkeeper team bumped into this little guy earlier today at the Downtown Sailing Center while collecting water samples from the Patapsco! Believe it or not, the Harbor is teeming with life. Check out all our monitoring data at www.HarborAlert.org to learn more.

Over 1.2 million gallons of raw sewage have overflowed into the Jones Falls due to the deluge of rain we've been getting. That's two olympic-sized swimming pools full of liquid f***s.
Keep an eye out for more sewage overflows, and report them to 311 and to our pollution reporting hotline: https://www.bluewaterbaltimore.org/take-action/report-pollution/

Another successful day of water quality monitoring on the boat! We detected very high dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll, and pH readings all of which point to an algae bloom. The water looked quite reddish brown, and we suspect it's a mahogany tide. Algae blooms are caused by sewage and stormwater pollution and can lead to fish kills.
