“Classic Modern”, Explained.

I’m a traditionalist at heart. I love draperies, custom rugs, antiques, inset cabinetry, and millwork. But traditional doesn’t have to be heavy or stuffy. It must be done well and in line with current times.

The best way I can explain it: I’m working on a kitchen right now where we’ve spent weeks looking at cabinet colors. Not white, not gray, not a trending cream, but that in-between. The color that feels warm without reading as white, using Marble, knowing it will etch, age, and patina over time. Classic details without feeling like they belong in a different decade, that’s classic modern. Looking back on the past, but designed for the way you actually live right now.

I’m going to be honest with you. Most people come to us with a Pinterest board, a vague timeline, and a lot of anxiety. And I get it, design is overwhelming when you don’t do it every day. You’re not sure what’s realistic, what’s worth the investment, and what you actually need versus what you think you need.

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of doing this: the best design doesn’t start with a mood board. It starts with your morning routine. How do you move through your kitchen at 7 am? Where do your kids dump their backpacks? Where does your family actually hang out on a Friday night, and is that room set up for it?

We design for how you actually live. Not the Instagram version. The real one. That’s the difference between a room that photographs well and a room that works. People need to hire designers early in the process. Before the floor plan is locked. Before the contractor starts framing. That’s where we do our best work and honestly, it’s where we save you the most money and the most headaches. If you’ve been going back and forth about whether it’s “time,” it’s time. Let’s talk.

We’re doing it, we’re taking the whole crew to the Bahamas and I have never been more ready. Every year we kick off summer with a first week of school’s out trip, and this year we decided to really go for it. We have been showing the kids the water slides for weeks, we have swimming with dolphins on the calendar, and the excitement in this house is at an all time high. This mood board is basically my brain right now: turquoise water, sandy toes, and zero emails (okay, maybe a few emails). After what felt like the longest Maycember of my life, this trip could not come at a better time, but here’s the thing: I’ve never actually been sooo I need your help!!
