Happy mulberry season! 🍇 The Baltimore Orchard Project (BOP) is looking for harvestable mulberry and serviceberry trees this month in preparation for its annual Mulberry Madness celebration. The lowly mulberry, often maligned for its splat impact on sidewalks and cars, is actually a super nutritious fruit used by home cooks as well as fine dining establishments in a variety of dishes and drinks. Mulberries provide more iron than blueberries and as much Vitamin B-6, folate, Vitamin A and E as blueberries.

The Baltimore Orchard Project partners with such local businesses as and to create special culinary and beverage delights to celebrate Mulberry Madness. Check them out on June 21 at the Waverly Farmers Market when BOP will also be giving away fruit trees to Baltimore residents.

Contact us on our website: baltimoreorchardproject.org to let us know where BOP volunteers (or YOU) have permission to harvest mulberries or serviceberries. As part of its mission Baltimore Orchard Project harvests orchards, street trees and approved private private trees to give fruit away to human service organizations and local underserved communities. It’s estimated that one in four of Baltimore City residents lives in a food desert.

Some shrubs and trees can live a lovely life in a pot and still have a delicious harvest! This Saturday, stop by, celebrate Mulberry Madness, and grab yourself a fruiting plant!

Plants are while supplies last. We are dependent on our local suppliers and cannot confirm at this time what types and how many of each plant we will have.
