I am 1 of 316 women accepted into the Spring 2026 cohort of the One Million Black Women: Black in Business program.đâ¨
Iâm so excited to grow with my ladies and learn from the instructors of .
This weekend was So full and Iâm currently in deep reflection remembering when I first started.
The truth isâŚ
I never saw myself as an entrepreneur⌠Iâve always been the creative kid- drawing, painting on clothes and shoes, taking things apart and putting them back together.
After graduating from , and working a full time job, I started my first company, Superficial Glamour with no planâŚjust a love for fashion and styling.
In 2012, I shifted to a new job that felt stifling and stressful, and creating became my outlet.
Around that time, I was inspired by a Malachite bracelet from Simmons Jewelry Co.. Learning about the Malachite stones and their healing properties was a game changer for me.
I loved the idea of wearing something that could ground me in environments that didnât feel good, so, I started stringing beads and making my own wears.
I wasnât trying to build a business yâall. I was creating to feel like myself again and wearing pieces that sparked joy. Then someone else saw my art and loved it.
My first customer was Hope, literally. đĽš
My good friend (Hope) saw a pair of earrings I made the night before work and bought them on the spot. That moment gave me the confidence to keep going, and pump up the volume.
In April 2014, just days before I said âI do,â I also said yes to the idea of New Vintage by Sam and walked away from my full time job. I was scared, but I was sure that I needed to seize the moment.
Since then, I have designed for organizations like the and , stocked my work in various retailers in the US (including ), and collaborated with schools and social impact organizations while bringing creative wellness to life through my work.
And I am still just getting started.
