Baltimore Against Animal Abusers

We are Baltimore City residents concerned about the systemic and horrific animal abuse in our city. The abusers are seldom held accountable. Sincerely,

Adopters and fosters urgently needed to save lives. There are more animals than kennels. So many wonderful animals there deserve a happy life.

**EMERGENCY 5/9/26 BARCS is out of space.**

We need to get this message out immediately due to a sudden and unexpected surge in intake this afternoon and a lack of available cages. We are short-staffed today but will update this post with more information as soon as possible.

Right now, the action is simple: Come to BARCS today to adopt or foster a large adult dog. We are open until 4PM.

Maryland just took a step that many people have been waiting for.

The state has passed a law that bans the use of wild animals in traveling circuses and shows. This includes animals like elephants, lions, tigers, bears, and primates. These are animals that are often moved from place to place and made to perform in unnatural conditions.

Supporters say this is about basic welfare. Traveling shows can mean long hours in transport, small enclosures, and constant stress. For animals that are meant to roam wide spaces, that life can be hard.

This law does not target zoos or permanent facilities. It focuses on traveling acts where animals are constantly on the move.

Maryland is not alone. More states are taking similar steps. There is a growing shift in how people see animal entertainment. What was once normal is now being questioned.

For some, this is long overdue. For others, it raises questions about tradition and business. But one thing is clear. The conversation around animal welfare is changing fast.

And now Maryland is part of that change.
