🎺 Why 3:00 PM? And what if I can’t make that time?

We’ve received a lot of emails asking why Taps Across America takes place at 3:00 PM local time.

The answer is simple: In 2000, Congress established the National Moment of Remembrance, encouraging all Americans to pause at 3:00 PM local time for one minute of silence in honor of those who gave their lives in service to our nation.

That is why we choose 3:00 PM.

But please hear this clearly:

3:00 PM is a suggestion — not a barrier.

We understand that many people are working, traveling, attending family gatherings, playing concerts, or honoring Memorial Day in other ways.

So if 3:00 PM does not work for you, please participate at the time that does.

Sound Taps in the morning.
Sound Taps in the evening.
Sound Taps at a cemetery, a memorial, your front porch, your church, your town green, or wherever your heart leads you.

Because this is about more than the clock.

It is about the moment.
It is about remembrance.
It is about pausing as a nation to honor those who never came home.
